Extending Sunbury’s Rich History to Everley.

Sunbury is renowned as one of Victoria’s oldest wine regions, dating back to the 1860s when Australian politician, James Johnson, planted the first vines at Craiglee.

Located next door to Everley, Craiglee Vineyards is an award-winning winery run by Pat and Dianne Carmody and is known for producing world-class Shiraz and Chardonnay wines.

Just down the road, the historic Goona Warra vineyard leverages Sunbury’s unique microclimate to produce elegant cool climate wines.

As a nod to Sunbury’s rich history and award-winning wineries, Everley’s street names will continue this theme, with most of them based on viticultural references.

Barolo Loop

Barolo is a red wine made entirely from Nebbiolo, a variety that is best expressed in the Piedmont region, where it is indigenous (Forbes, 2018). It is often described as one of Italy’s greatest wines.

Cava Circuit

Known as the champagne of Spain, Cava is a sparkling wine produced mostly in Catalonia, Spain. The style is typically quite dry,  which makes it perfect for Aussie summers (The Upsider, 2017).

Quinta Crescent

In Portuguese, a ‘quinta’ is a wine-producing estate, which can be a winery or a vineyard. It is also a system which grades the terroir of quality vineyards from the Douro region, verifying the grapes which are suitable for the making of Port wine (Wine Frog, 2021).

Vilana Drive

Vilana is a white wine variety grown primarily on the island of Crete in Greece. It has a medium intensity of aromas, and flavours showing notes of lemon, orange, pear, flowers (like jasmine), and herbs (New Wines of Greece, 2021).

Other street names in Everley include Tanninbrae Drive, Ortega Crescent and Sabro Street, while Everley’s future stages will include the names Areni, Argant, Bobal, Vega, Regner, Molette, Malvar and Lauzet.
