Less than 15 minutes away from Sunbury is the Organ Pipes National Park, named for its natural features that resemble a cathedral organ. The 70 metre basalt columns are an impressive geologic formation that was formed approximately one million years ago after Mount Holden erupted.

The perfect spot for a nature walk and a picnic – it’s not often you can park your car on top of an old volcano!

Rupertswood Mansion

Rupertswood Mansion

Fondly known as the birthplace of The Ashes, Rupertswood Mansion is a significant piece of Australian history. In the summer of 1882-83, the estate hosted the English Cricket Team who won the Test match series against Australia. The bails were then burnt, and Lady Janet Clarke awarded English captain, Ivo Bligh, the ashes to commemorate the victory.

Upon his death, Bligh’s widow gave them to the Marylebone Cricket Club, and today the ashes remain in the MCC Museum at Lord’s.

To this day, The Ashes remains one of the most hotly contested trophies in global sport.
